The Direct Support Professional (DSP) provides one-on-one support for the Developmentally/Intellectually Disabled adults who use S.T.E.P. for their supported living services needs. Support is provided in the home, in the community, and wherever our Employers (the client) may be! The goal of the DSP is to help our Employers become as independent in their own lives as possible by actively finding ways to accommodate tasks to their needs and being hands-on support when needed.
This includes, but isn’t limited to:
- Basic housekeeping
- Meal preparation and planning
- Grocery shopping
- Medication assistance
- Developing healthy lifestyles
- And more!
Shifts and hours vary based on the needs of our Employers — we look for DSPs that can maintain a consistent schedule, be punctual, respectful, and who are looking to make a difference in someone’s life.
Requirements: All of our staff must pass an initial criminal background screening and pre-employment drug test. High school diploma or GED is preferred, but no prior experience in this field is required. S.T.E.P. provides training specific for each Employer we support, so our DSPs just need to be open to learning and able to soak up knowledge in order to be successful!
Many of our Employers are deaf or hard of hearing, so DSPs with American Sign Language (ASL) skills are welcome! We have a very diverse culture at our company, which includes both hearing and non-hearing employees and Employers!
