Vocational Services

Next STEP

The Next STEP Vocational Program has been formed to fill the need for training and supportive vocational, behavioral and community access services to hearing-impaired (Deaf or Deaf-Blind) individuals with developmental disabilities and behavioral challenges. Our goals are to facilitate integration into the gainfully employed community, and to enable the individual to achieve the greatest independence possible.

Along the journey to paid employment, individuals will increase their communication skills, their social interaction skills and decrease negative or unwanted behaviors. Supervised supported employment and community access provides the individual with a sense of value in their society, daily structure, social interaction, self-worth, dignity and income.

Extra STEP

The Extra STEP Program has been developed to fill the need for training and supportive vocational, behavioral and community access services to traditionally underserved people, including hearing-impaired (Deaf or Deaf-Blind) individuals with developmental disabilities and significant behavioral challenges, and those considered medically fragile. Our long term goals are to facilitate integration into the working community, develop functional communication systems, and enable the individual to achieve the greatest independence possible.

By offering therapeutic-type activities, we hope in some cases to assist in the arrest of some of the debilitating aspects of certain conditions. Immediate and short-term goals will include the increase in communication skills, social interaction skills, development of appropriate alternative behaviors, provision of daily support, structure, consistency and a decrease in negative or unwanted behaviors.

We realize that for some, this journey will be long. We teach individuals the skills they will need in functional settings and provide part time work opportunities. Employment and community access provides the individual with a sense of value in their society, daily structure, social interaction, self-worth, dignity and income.
